Invisalign

Malocclusion is the most commonly encountered oral condition that affects individuals of all age groups. It is caused due to various factors such as heredity, abnormal growth of the jaws, faulty oral appliances, thumb sucking, loss of teeth, etc. For many years now, dental braces were the go-to orthodontic appliances to treat a malocclusion. But, the advancement in dental technology has brought out a more advanced and aesthetically pleasing aligner - Invisalign.

Why choose Invisalign?

  • Invisalign is one of the most advanced orthodontic aligners. The dentist will be able to scan the teeth and produce a simulation of the movement of the teeth using the software. It can also be used to track the movement of the teeth during the treatment period.
  • Invisalign is made from transparent plastic. This helps it stay under disguise when you smile, laugh, or talk. If you wish to keep your orthodontic treatment discreet, you could highly benefit from Invisalign.
  • Since Invisalign does not contain any metal components, such as brackets or wires, the chances of sustaining oral injuries due to the aligners are next to none.
  • The material used to fabricate the aligners is biocompatible. Meaning, it doesn’t cause any adverse reactions with the soft tissues of the mouth.
  • The walls of the aligner gently apply pressure on the teeth to move them to their orthodontically right positions. This method of moving the teeth reduces the pressure applied to them, making it more comfortable.
  • You wouldn’t have to visit the dentist frequently to get the aligners checked. A visit once every two weeks would suffice.

What is the procedure involved?

The dentist will visually diagnose you and take oral scans to determine the severity of the malocclusion. Based on the observations, your candidacy for Invisalign will be decided. Next, the teeth will be scanned using a hand-held device, and the images captured will be displayed on a computer screen. The dentist will take you through the procedure and discuss all the details involved. The data from the scans are used to fabricate the aligners from dental-grade plastic, which has shape memory.

During the next consultation, the aligners will be handed to you, and their usage will be explained. Some of the best practices you could follow are:

  • Wear them for at least 22 hours every day.
  • Avoid chewing on them.
  • Take them off while playing outdoor sports.
  • Avoid bringing them in contact with hot and cold liquids as it can warp their shape.
  • Take them off while consuming food or beverages.
  • Ensure to clean the teeth thoroughly before putting them back on.
  • Replace the aligners with a new set once every two weeks as per the dentist’s recommendation.
