Children’s Dentistry
Taking care of a newborn is easier said than done. As much as we love to watch, our children grow up, taking care of their overall health plays a significant role in their everyday lives. We get the expert opinions about taking care of their health from a pediatrician. But, what about their oral health? Are you paying enough attention to the growth of their teeth and other oral concerns?
To help you in this regard, we suggest you take your child for regular oral consultations to a pediatric dentist. Dr. Jolly is one of the best pediatric dentists in Little Rock, AR. He has treated numerous children over his long-spanning career with an excellent rate of satisfaction. He and his associates are highly recommended by all their patients owing to their unique approach to treatment and ease of handling young patients.
Baby’s first dental visit
It is recommended that you take your baby to a pediatric dentist for their first consultation between the ages of 6 months to a year. This is when the baby’s teeth start to erupt and require special attention to ensure they emerge without any issue. We would ask you to sit in the dental chair with your child to feel reassured during the treatment. Some of the factors we look into are gum health, the eruption of the teeth, any obstruction in the path of the teeth, oral infections, etc. It would be a basic consultation.
Need for periodic consultations
Dentists recommend you take your children for an oral consultation at least once every six months. Here’s why:
- We would be able to maintain a detailed record of your child’s oral health. Whenever any unexpected issue with the teeth or gums pops up, we would be able to attend to it quickly and solve the issue as we understand the patient’s oral history.
- No matter how well your child brushes the teeth, a part of the microbes get left behind in the mouth. Over time, this can result in the accumulation of plaque and tartar deposits on the teeth and root surfaces. During the periodic consultation, we would get rid of the tartar deposits using a non-invasive procedure called scaling.
- Whenever your child develops a cavity, we can tend to it immediately and get rid of the decay. If not, the cavity would continue to increase in size and put the entire tooth at risk of being extracted.
- To help your child develop healthy teeth that are immune to the microbes in the mouth, we recommend a fluoride treatment. During this, a fluoride gel will be applied on the teeth to replenish the amount of fluoride in them. This makes them stronger and far lesser susceptible to cavities.
- The dentist would suggest the best methods to brush and floss the teeth. Also, the right diet will be recommended so that the chances of developing cavities are reduced considerably.
